Icons for standard, primary, & variant objects in Author

Object Variants

The variant icons appear next to the regular object icon. This example shows the topic object icon, but the behavior is the same for any objects where variants are used:

Meaning

Topic Ordinary Object Icon

No variant icons indicate this is a standard object with no variants.

Variant Primary Icon

Indicates this is a primary object with variants.

Variant Topic Icon

Indicates the object is a variant.

Topic Object with Variant Criteria Icon

Indicates this is an object with variant criteria assigned. This object can be a primary object or an object without variants.

The following variant icons appear next to regular object icons only when you are translating content in a single library using Translations. The primary object used for translation is always appears directly above its variant objects used for translation.

Indicates a primary object used for translation.

Topic Object with Variant Criteria Icon

Indicates a primary object used for translation that has extra criteria assigned.

Locale Variant Icon

Indicates a variant object used for translation. (locale variant only displayed if using Translations)

Locale Variant with Extra Criteria

Indicates a variant object used for translation that has extra criteria assigned. (locale variant only displayed if using Translations)

In addition to the icons, columns display in the object list for the variant criteria. Each variant has its own column, with the value indicated in the column.
