When you work from the Library Explorer object list you have a wider choice of options for creating variants - this includes the types of objects, and also creating variants from standard, primary or other variant objects.
You can also create variants of your topics while you're working in a book. If the book is filtered, any new variant objects are automatically assigned the same criteria values - change the values in the filter if the default values are not appropriate.
-
To create a variant object:
-
In the Library Explorer or book contents, select the object from which you want to create your variant. This can be a standard object, a primary object or another variant.
Note: It's easier to create variants of most object types from the Library Explorer. If the topic object is a standard or primary object, you can create a variant directly from the book's content pane.
-
Right-click and select Variant > New Variant.
-
Select the variant filter criteria values from the Create Variant window:
-
Make sure that the associated criteria check box is selected.
-
Select a value for the criteria from the drop-down menu.
-
-
Click OK to create the variant object and apply the criteria values. The variant object is stored in the same folder as its parent object.
Note: If you are working in the book you may need to update the filter settings for the book's contents to display your new variant object.
