Re-importing HTML and Word Source Files

The process of re-importing content relies on the HTML source files being imported into the same folder as the original import job.

The following sections describe which objects can and can't be moved out of the importing folder when you plan to re-import the HTML source files.

Book objects

The Book object used by the importing process must be kept in your importing folder so it can be reused when the HTML source files are re-imported. If the book is moved to a different folder, a new Book object will be created when the HTML source files are re-imported.

Note: If you select a single HTML source file for the import job a new Book object will be created for that import, and named using the HTML source file's name. If you select multiple files for the import job the book will be named "HTML Import".

Topic objects

Topic objects must be kept in the importing folder so they can be reused. If the topics are moved to a different folder they will not be overwritten when the content is re-imported. Instead, new objects will be created

Note: Although the topics should remain in the importing folder they can be used in other books (by dragging and dropping the topic into the other book's content pane). If the HTML source files are modified and re-imported, the topics will be updated in each book using them.

Hyperlinks

  • External URL: After the first import an "external URL" Hyperlink object can be moved to a different folder and still be reused when content is re-imported.
  • Topic-to-topic: After the first import "topic-to-topic" Hyperlink objects can be moved to a different folder - the Hyperlink objects can still be reused when content is re-imported. However, the associated anchor and target Topic objects must not be moved from the import folder.

File objects

  • Linked File objects: After the first import a linked File object can be moved to a different folder and still be reused when content is re-imported.
  • Embedded File objects: These File objects must be kept in the importing folder so they can be reused. If embedded File objects are moved out of the import folder new objects will be created when the HTML source files are re-imported.
