You can insert a video, audio, or animation file in the HTML based output by embedding a piece of HTML code that links to the multimedia file. To publish correctly, Author-it must know where to find the file that contains the HTML code and where to find the video, audio, or animation files.

The multimedia file can exist on an external network location, that you and the Author-it library can access, or it can reside in the Author-it Files repository. For more information about file objects in Author-it Cloud, see the Author-it Knowledge Center.

You can use a file object to create the relationship between the HTML code and the video file, and then insert the file object in a slide topic.

The following file types are supported:

  • Video - mp4
  • Embedded videos, such as YouTube or Vimeo videos, using iframe script
  • Audio - mp3
  • Animation - HTML5-based animations (not Flash)

To insert audio, video or animation:

  1. Create an HTML file.
  2. Create an HTML file object.
  3. Insert the file object in the topic of your book.
  4. Note: The first audio on a slide will play automatically when the slide loads. All additional audio will have a play bar for the user to start manually. Video will not auto play, and settings added to try to make it auto-play are ignored. In case of animations, apply the hv_noprocess style to the paragraph that contains the file object. This style prevents Chrysalis from removing specific code.
