Child rules defined

Structured Authoring

In the following example, the rule allows one to five paragraphs in a topic. The paragraph rule has been defined with a child rule restricting the character style to Special Bold. This enables file objects, hyperlinks, variables, and embedded topics to be used without any restrictions.

The paragraph rules are defined as the number of occurrences, the location sequence, the allowed style:

Body Text

Special Bold

Child Rule Reference - Character Rule

  • Example One: Topic text is valid

Three paragraphs have been used in the topic with Body Text applied. One occurrence of Special Bold has been used in the second paragraph.

  • Example Two: Topic text is invalid

This is because a different character style has been used in the second paragraph.

  • Example Three: Topic text is valid

The third paragraph is valid because there are no file rules defined so any image can be added within the paragraph.
