Identifying criteria values assigned to other objects

Object Variants

In the variant assignment window, you can quickly identify the values that have already been assigned to other objects within that group of variants. That is, if you have a primary object and create variant objects based on the primary, when you display the variant selection window any values already used in this group appear n gray. Values that have not been used by objects in this group appear in black.

Used and Unused Variant Criteria Values

For example, Anne Ortha wants to create some variant objects for the Acme Teleporter Pro-tekt case. Each version of the teleporter has some requirements that differ by state (such as New York, California, Texas, and Nevada).

From the primary object, Anne creates:

  • A variant for the X1000 Pro-tekt Case for California
  • A variant for the X2001 Pro-tekt Case for California
  • A variant for the X2001 Pro-tekt Case for New York

After each variant is created, the values displayed in the window are updated to show in gray the values currently in use for this group of objects:

  • X1000
  • X2001
  • NY
  • CA

Values that have not been used in this group of variant objects are still shown in black:

  • X3001
  • X5000
  • TX
  • NV
  • All Release values
