Scheduling the migration

Migrating to Author-it Cloud

When planning your migration, there are different ways to approach the time scheduling - with downtime (and no changes are made to content during the downtime) or with a delay between creating the files for migration and going live. If you use the second option you'll need to manually update any changes to the library, however, using XML to import the updates into your Author-it Cloud library is a simple step.

Scenario 1: Scheduled downtime for the migration

If you scheduled some downtime between running Author-it Cloud Migration Toolkit and when you go live and no changes have been made to content in your library, then your users can begin working in your Author-it Cloud library as soon as they have been made active. The library will not have changed between the time it was used on-premises to the time it is available on Author-it Cloud.

Run Author-it Cloud Migration Toolkit and reconfirm the file locations are correct

Go live on Author-it Cloud

Scenario 2: Updates in the on-premises library after running Author-it Cloud Migration Toolkit

In some cases there may be a time delay between running Author-it Cloud Migration Toolkit and when you go live. If you have a delay, and users continued to work in the on-premises library, you'll need to identify and update any objects that have changed during this time.

Updating the library with the changes is a simple process of exporting object XML from your on-premises library and importing it into your Author-it Cloud library.

To do this:

  1. Open your on-premises library and search for all objects that have been created or modified between the time you ran Author-it Cloud Migration Toolkit and the time your library went live on Author-it Cloud.
  2. Create an XML file of all objects in the search results, upload the file to Author-it Cloud Files, and import the XML file into your library on Author-it Cloud.
