Update Author on a workstation

Author-it Modules Installation & Update Guide

As part of updating Author, your organisation needs to update Author on each of its workstations. Workstations that aren't updated may not be able to use Author.

This is straightforward and can be done by the person who uses the workstation, even if they have little technical knowledge. We recommend having someone with technical knowledge perform the rest of the update, then letting authors update their own workstations.


  1. Log in to the workstation you're updating.

  2. Download the required installation files from the Author-it Community website:


  3. Close all other Windows programs.

    This lets Author-it update essential components which are shared by other programs.

  4. Run Author-it.msi

  5. On the Custom Setup screen, select Data > Entire feature will be unavailable

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
