Author-it Xtend user options - On Premises R2020

Author-it Xtend

The Author-it Xtend options define the settings used to find and return suggested fragments.

User Options in Cloud

The Author-it Xtend window is divided into the following settings:

  • Active Suggestions: Settings that define the content Author-it Xtend searches for, and the weighting ratio slider used to set the type of matching used by Author-it Xtend.
  • Similarity Highlighting: Settings that define the color bands applied to similar content.

Active suggestions

  • Minimum number of words typed before suggesting: Sets the minimum number of words that need to match before Author-it Xtend begins returning suggestions. Choose from values between 3 words and 100 words. To display more suggestions, set the field to a lower number.

Note: Creating a Noise Words list impacts the minimum number of words that must be typed before suggestions are made. Noise words added to the list are eliminated from the search, so you must type more content to reach the minimum number of words before suggestions are made.

  • Maximum number of suggestions: Sets the maximum number of suggestions that will be displayed in the reuse pop-up window. Choose values between 3 and 100.
  • Only suggest fragments with a percentage match of at least: Sets the minimum level of similarity required before a suggestion is displayed in the reuse pop-up window. Choose a value between 10 and 100.

Weighting ratio slider

Use the slider to choose the type and level of match you want to use.

  • Fuzzy matching: Looks at the similarity of the fragments and makes a comparison based on words common to both fragments and the order in which they appear in both fragments.
  • Relevance matching: Looks at the similarity of the fragments and makes a comparison based on words common to both fragments. Relevance matching does not take into account the order of the words. Relevance matching returns a larger number of suggestions, but may be less suitable.

Similarity highlighting

  • Text Fragment Highlighting: Displays the highlighting bands used by Author-it Xtend to indicate reused content and levels of similarity between fragments. Highlighting colors can be modified, and additional user-defined fuzzy match bands can be added.
