Publishing to Resolved XML versus Publishing to XML - On Premises: 6.4

Publishing

Resolved XML output is a linearized version of the Published XML output. When you publish to XML Author-it generates a complete set of objects that allows you to restore the book in another Author-it library. That means that all variants and related objects (such as templates, styles and media) are included.

The table shows the differences between the Resolved XML output and the XML output.

Publish to Resolved XML

Publish to XML

Contents of the output

An XML version of the book with topics in the right order.

Contains a complete set of objects that allow you to restore the book in another Author-it library.

Variants

Resolved XML asks for variant selection. It only contains the selected variants.

Contains all variants of all included objects.

Embedded topics

Embedded topics are resolved: the references to the topics in the text are replaced by the content of the referenced topics.

Embedded topics are included as separate topics.

Variables

Variables are replaced with their applicable values.

Variables are not resolved.

Import into Author-it library

Not possible, because the XML format is modified and does not follow the standard Author-it XML structure.

Possible

Can be used for further processing

Resolved XML is especially developed for further processing (HTML5, PDF).

Can only be used for further processing if the XML is transformed to a linear format, etc. For that reason, Resolved XML output is created.
