Converting your library for SQL Server (if required) - On Premises 6.4

On-premises requirements, installation, and upgrade guide

Author-it v6.0 and later does not support JET libraries. If you are using a JET database, you must switch to a SQL Server database.

You will need to create an empty SQL Server database. If you don't have an existing library, we suggest you import the JET library sample.adl as a starting point. You will find this library included in the data\libraries folder of your Author-it install. This sample library includes templates and sample content for you to get started.

  • To create an empty SQL Server database:

Create an empty SQL Server database for the library you want to work with - most of the time, you will only need one. Read about when to use more than one library.

Your library needs:

  • A user that has dbowner rights to the database.
  • db_datareader and db_datawriter rights for your authors.

For detailed instructions about using SQL Server, please refer to your SQL Server user documentation.

  • To export your existing JET Library to SQL Server:
  1. Open Author-it Administrator.
  2. Log in as a user with administrative privileges (such as supervisor). If you are prompted to update your library, click Yes. This may take a few minutes.
  3. Go to Export > Export to SQL Server....

The Export Database To SQL Server screen opens.

  4. Enter the name of the server and the database.
  5. Connect using a dbowner account.
  6. Click OK to begin the process. Progress is shown as the JET database is exported to SQL Server.
  7. A confirmation message is shown when the database has been successfully exported. Click OK, then close the Export to SQL Server window.
