Edit & retranslate

Translations

The retranslation status of an object is indicated by the locale flag (gray, colored, or a red exclamation) shown next to the object.

Flags-ItalianGrey30percent

A gray flag indicates that the localization variant has been created, but not yet translated.

Flags-ItalianFull

The full color flag indicates that the localization variant has been translated, and is up to date with the object it was translated from, or is currently sent out for re-translation (as shown by the release state of the object).

Flags-ItalianNeedsRetranslationt

The red exclamation indicates that the locale variant has been translated, but its parent variant object (the source object) has since changed.

In some circumstances, such as an edit that corrects punctuation or spelling, you may wish to manually clear this flag so the localization variant isn't sent for retranslation.

Objects with this flag will automatically be picked up for retranslation when a translation job is run on a book to which the objects are associated.

Manually change an object status

You can manually change the status of an object by using the Retranslation settings.

  • The object is marked with the gray flag, but requires retranslation

Right-click the object in the library's object list and choose Retranslate > Requires retranslation. The gray flag changes to the red exclamation flag.

  • The object is marked with the red exclamation flag, but does not require retranslation

Right-click the object in the library's object list and choose Retranslate > Does not require retranslation. The red exclamation flag changes to the gray flag.

Re-translate Options

Points applying to retranslation

The following points apply to this process:

  • Marking an object as Does not require retranslation does not change the release state of the object.
  • Retranslate options do not override any release state considerations.
  • If the user selects multiple objects, where some have the Requires retranslation flag and others do not, the system disables the Retranslation options (you cannot set them).
  • The menu initially displays the current state of the object, and you must either leave it or specify the opposing state. Simply de-selecting a menu item does not change the state.
