When is a variant of the object created?

A variant of the Book object is created if there is any translatable content typed in the fields listed for the topic properties. That is, the content is not inherited from the template.

In most cases, a variant of the Book object will be created because books for your source content will usually have unique properties such as title, version, and by line.
