Example Field
When is a variant of the template created?
A variant of the linked File object template is created if there is Caption text typed in the Print tab, or Alternative text typed in the Web tab.
Note: This should be avoided, because objects based on the template will inherit this text; alternative text should be added in the File object, not the template.
When is a variant of the object created?
- A variant of the linked or embedded File object is created when the image is used by the Title Page object and the File object has Caption text on the Print tab or Alternative text on the Web tab, or if the Option Also include file objects without translatable text in Translations is set.
- A variant of the linked or embedded File object is created when the image is used by a Topic object and the File object has Caption text on the Print tab or Alternative text on the Web tab, or if the Option Also include file objects without translatable text in Translations is set.
Recommended
Template: Use a variant template when you are using linked images so that you can point to a different image storage folder for each locale.
Object: use a variant object when you are using embedded images so you can have different images for your locales.
