Magellan Search

Magellan has a search bar that visitors can use to find content. The search bar is on every page, and will feel familiar to anyone who has used a search engine.

Magellan search uses a logical "or". That means it will search for content containing any combination of its requested search terms. For example, if you search for "Magellan landing page", Magellan will search for Magellan, landing, page, or any combination of those three words. The search results are weighted based on a combination of how many terms appear, how often they appear, and how often they appear in the Magellan website overall (for example, a common word such as "of" would receive a low weighting).

Magellan performs its search against a number of fields:

• Topic titles

• Topic body text

• Topic keywords

• The alternate text for images.

Search operators

Magellan search supports the use of search operators, so visitors can make more specific searches.

Note: Visitors can perform a regular search, or a search with one search operator. For example, they can search for "The highland" but not The "highland", "The" "highland", The high*, or "The" high*.

• * (asterisk)

  Asterisks create wildcards at the end of search terms. For example: land* searches for any terms that start with land.

• “ “ (quotes)

  Quotes search for exact search terms. These searches are case sensitive. For example: “The highlands” searches for those exact words in that exact order. It will not search for The or highlands or highlands the.

• title:

  title: searches for terms inside titles. For example: title:highland searches for titles that have the term highland, but doesn't search for the term highland in any other locations.

• body:

  body: searches for terms inside the body of topics.

• keywords:

  keywords: searches for terms matching the keywords of topics.
