The General tab provides access to general library settings.
Prompt for unsaved changes
When a topic or book is closed Author, doesn't automatically save the changes, and any work that was not saved will be lost. However, when the Prompt for Unsaved Changes option is selected, Author prompts you to confirm whether you want to save any changes that have been made before closing, or to continue by closing the object without saving the changes.
Best practice is to use the save options before closing an object, but also to ensure that this option is selected.
Automatically open last library
This option is not available in Author-it Cloud.
Automatically login to library
This option is not available in Author-it Cloud.
Enable offline library
This option is not available in Author-it Cloud.
Autosave objects
This option enables you to specify how often, in minutes, Author will save all open objects. Select the option and then set the number of minutes. When this option is not selected, the autosave feature is disabled.
Measurements units
This option enables you to specify the measurement unit used by the ruler in the Editor.
You can choose from:
- Inches
- Centimeters
- Millimeters
- Points
- Picas
When I paste pictures, save as
When you copy a graphic to the clipboard and paste it directly into a File object, Author uses this setting to determine the format used as the graphic is embedded. The default for this option is PNG.
Choose from:
- Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif)
- Windows Bitmap (*.bmp)
- Portable Network Graphics (*.png)
- JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg, *.jpeg)
- Windows Metafile (*.wmf)

Use the Re-Index Search option when you're not getting the correct or expected search results.
