Separating hyperlinks & embedded topics with a non-breaking space

Embedded topics

When content consists of a hyperlink followed by an embedded topic (where the hyperlink and the embedded topic are on the same line and would usually be separated by a space), the best practice is to use a non-breaking space instead of an ordinary space.

  • Using a space: When you use an ordinary space between the hyperlink and the embedded topic, the space is removed when the topic is opened in Contribute and Reviews. This results in the hyperlink being followed by the embedded topic without a space between.
  • Using a non-breaking space: Insert a non-breaking space between the hyperlink and the embedded topic rather than an ordinary space. The non-breaking space is used when the topic is opened in Contribute and Reviews.

To Insert a Non-breaking Space:

  1. In Author, add the hyperlink to the topic.
  2. On the Edit tab click Insert > Non-breaking Space.
