Offline Viewer User Guide

Normally, HTML5 outputs such as Magellan, Honeycomb, and Chrysalis, can only be viewed by hosting them on a web server then opening them with a browser. This can make it difficult to use these outputs in environments that prevent external connections, or on offline devices. Offline Viewer is an application that can open and view HTML5 outputs anywhere, removing the need for internet access or a web server, and the security concerns those may bring.

Note: Offline Viewer can open any .ofln package that contains an index.html file. This makes it possible to open a wide range of HTML based outputs.

  1. Publish a .ofln file.

Note: It's also possible to create a .ofln manually, if you can't publish one.

  2. Add OfflineViewer.exe to your required device or devices.

Offline Viewer is free to download from the Author-it Community website.

  3. (optional) Ensure that OfflineViewer.exe is in a directory with appropriate security permissions.

The Offline Viewer has security settings that can be modified by using a configuration file. We recommend placing OfflineViewer.exe in a directory that regular users can't modify, to prevent these settings being modified by unauthorized users.

  4. Add the .ofln file to the device or devices.

  5. Open OfflineViewer.exe

Offline Viewer displays all files with the .ofln extension.

Tip! Configure your devices to automatically open .ofln files with Offline Viewer.

  6. Select the .ofln file.
