Author-it Cloud Migration Guide

When you migrate from Author-it On-Premises to Author-it Cloud, there are some key differences that your organization should consider.

The speed of software actions and of refreshing your display can be affected by Internet connectivity

A slow Internet connection may cause a delay in responsiveness. Conversely, a fast Internet connection may improve the responsiveness. Responsiveness depends in part on your connection, which is beyond our control.

No drag-and-drop from Windows to create images in Author

It isn't possible to drag images from Windows Explorer to automatically create file images in the Author-it Cloud environment. It's still possible to create an embedded image by pasting an image into a topic in Author.

OLEs

You can't create or edit OLE objects in Author-it Cloud. Your organization will need to find an alternative solution to OLEs. For more information about alternatives to OLEs, contact your Author-it consultant.

Microsoft Word macros

Microsoft Word macros aren't supported by Author-it Cloud. If you're migrating from Author-it On-Premises to Author-it Cloud, you have the following options for Word macro procedures:

  • Discuss your macro requirements with us prior to migration to find out if they can be converted to executables for your library on Author-it Cloud.

Note: this work requires a quote.

  • Run the Word macros locally: After publishing, download your output files and run the Word macros locally.

Before-publish and after-publish actions

You can't directly create or edit publishing actions in Author-it Cloud. If you're migrating to Author-it Cloud, we can add some actions to your profiles for you. Contact your Author-it consultant for more information.

If you've already migrated to Author-it Cloud and need to make changes to publishing actions, submit a ticket on the Author-it Community page.

Plugins

Author-it Cloud supports plugins that have been created by Author-it, but may not support those created by your organization or a third party. Contact your Author-it consultant for more information.
